MSU Hosts SODA 2017 Launch on World Mental Health Day

MyPerintis Sweat-Off Depression And Anxiety Programme Kicks Start With Launch At Management and Science University (MSU)

Mental health is a key component to youth development, yet the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that by the year 2020, depression will rank second behind heart disease. Youths are the heart and soul of nations, crucial to national futures. Their physical and mental empowerment should thus be among a nation’s top goals. Management and Science University (MSU) coordinates the World Mental Health Day 2017 launch of the MyPerintis “Sweat-Off Depression And Anxiety” (SODA) programme.

Themed “Purposeful Lifestyles, Youth Empowerment”, the programme was launched in a keynote address by the Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia. Activities lined up for the day included talks on relaxation technique; standing up and speaking up, breaking the stigma of mental illness; and personal battles. Health and mental health screenings were held concurrently with a blood donation drive.

Management and Science University (MSU) Founder and President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid emphasized the need to look into health and wellness in building excellence in university. A holistic approach ensuring well-rounded development of its graduates is already in place at Management and Science University (MSU). Earlier this year, Management and Science University (MSU) made the Malaysia Book of Records for its #FightAgainstDepression programme held in conjunction with the 2017 World Health Day.

The Sweat-Off Depression & Anxiety (SODA) launch at Management and Science University (MSU) was coordinated by the MSU School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS) Counselling and Guidance Club with MyPerintis MySchool of Life, and partners the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), the Ministry of Youth and Sports, National Blood Centre, National Kidney Foundation, Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), Light Up, National Cancer Society Malaysia, and National Transplant Resource Centre.
