President of Management and Science University (MSU) urges moving beyond academic and classroom into commercialization, and calls for passion to turn scholarship into contribution to society and country.
The ideas Regeneration Expo or iRex of Management and Science University (MSU) is a showcase of creativity and inventiveness.
Presenting the final-year projects of students from the Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE), the bi-annual two-day event with the 2017 theme of TechTour, TechCom, and Techpreneur included exhibitions of FISE international mobility activities as well as community engagement projects, caricaturing by the Creative Club, and flight simulation by the Young Engineer Club. Its industry-sharing session is a high point of iRex.
Officiating the launch of iRex 2017, Management and Science University (MSU) President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid expounded about the need for creativity and inventiveness in sharing innovations with industry as well as meeting market needs.
The MSU President was pleased by the practicality of the regenerated ideas on display. There is enough that is evident, he remarked, to move the hundreds of projects spanning the fields of artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and creative design to the next step, which is to translate the knowledge and skills gained into product development by commercialization.
Professor Shukri urged a move beyond the academic and the classroom to emerge the best in commercializing. He also called for passion to turn scholarship into contribution to society and country, and for the creation of home-grown entrepreneurs capable of developing home-grown companies.
iRex 2017 witnessed more MoUs signed between Management and Science University (MSU) and new collaborators. Joining the list of Management and Science University (MSU) industry partners at the iRex 2017 launch were software company N2N Connect Berhad, computer service provider SysArmy Sdn Bhd, security system supplier Mega Fortris (M) Sdn Bhd, and Kaapagam Education Services Sdn Bhd.
