A Summer of Mobility in Malaysia

For thirty-three students of IUHW Japan this August, no lull in their learning with the international summer programme at Management and Science University (MSU)

Experiences abroad open up perspectives that cannot be obtained any other way. This August, delivering the Management and Science University (MSU) commitment to global experiences, the MSU Summer Programme welcomed thirty-three students from the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) Japan.

Would you like to try your hand at congkak, or batu seremban, or both? How about putting your best foot forward in one of our traditional dances or martial arts? For the students from Japan, play and learn they did.

Starting off their two-week program with a lecture on the Malaysian healthcare system and social welfare, the health professionals students experienced Malaysian culture and cities in between visits to healthcare and social welfare facilities. Broadening their knowledge and adding to their skillsets were the local traditional dances and martial arts they were taught and the local traditional games they tried out, whilst dedicated sharing sessions facilitated their cultural exchanges and personal reflections.

Such skills and knowledge gained in a global context are key to better understanding of increasingly complex world issues. For the summer students of Management and Science University (MSU), whether their takeaway is a new understanding of a previously foreign community and culture, or a better understanding now of their own, this was certainly a summer of learning from which to return home better informed.
